I've always heard that your senior summer is the best one you will ever have. Sadly, it was quite the opposite for me. I had no idea so much could possibly happen in such a short period of time. I was in love with the same boy I'd been with for a year and a half. I was used by that same boy and my feelings were taken advantage of. He left me for a..well..easier to ride model I guess is the most polite thing that can be said. I lost his friendship. I was told that I'm the most pathetic thing on the planet by "the new ride". After all of this, I was fed up. I was physically sicken by all of it. But while at a funeral, I received the greatest advise of all. These wise words are from an extremely wise woman. This woman is Mother Theresa.

"People are unreasonable, illogical,
and self-centered;
forgive them anyway.
If you are kind, people may accuse
you
of selfish, ulterior motives;
be kind anyway.
If you are successful, you will win
some
false friends and some true enemies
succeed anyway.
If you are honest and frank,
people may cheat you;
be honest and frank anyway.

When I heard these words, they felt so familiar to me. Everything in this poem is so very real and true. I remind myself of this quote everyday. So far, the boy has come to me and apologized for everything. I remain his friend and still feel like a part of his family. Though school is only a few days away, my last few days of summer have become brighter. These words are my athem. I live and breathe by them. In my heart, I believe that this is the only way to find a true happiness.
